Required Props / Materials

A well-equipped club doesn't have to start with everything, but knowing what you'll need and how to scale is important. This section outlines the core equipment required to run matches, based on the number of stages you're planning to support.

Break Down by Stage Count

How many props and materials you need will depend on the number of stages in your match. A small indoor match with three stages may only need a dozen target stands and a few walls. A larger club match with six stages or more will require significantly more equipment and logistical planning.

Target Stands

How many target stands?

Plan for 6–10 per stage as a general starting point. This allows for flexible stage design and minimal prop movement between bays.

Walls

How many walls?

Three to five walls per stage is a typical guideline, depending on your stage designs and how often walls are re-used between stages.

Sizes

Standard wall dimensions vary, but many clubs use 4' x 6' panels framed with wood or metal.

Snow Fencing / See-through walls

Used for visibility and stage flow. Lightweight and easy to move. Snow fencing mounted in wooden or PVC frames is a popular option.

Fault Lines

1x2 dimensional lumber is commonly used to create fault lines. Ensure you have enough to mark key shooting positions and boundary areas on each stage.

No Need to Own Everything

Certain items, like timers and tablets, do not necessarily need to be owned by the club. Many competitors are willing to bring equipment if asked in advance.

Scoring Devices and Timers

You’ll need at least one timer per squad and tablets or phones for scorekeeping. See the Equipment Section for more information.

Steel and Moving Targets

Poppers

Include both full-size and mini poppers as described in the USPSA rulebook.

Swingers

Useful for adding challenge and variety to your stages. Make sure they are safe and reliable.

Max Traps

A simple and affordable option for creating movement on a stage.

Activators

Cables, pulleys, springs, and other components used to trigger swingers, drop turners, or other devices. Clubs should maintain a variety of activator setups.

Targets

Use only certified USPSA targets for consistency and scoring accuracy.

Tape

Painter's tape or masking tape for securing pasters and paper targets.

Pasters

Essential for fast stage reset. Make sure to have a steady supply in multiple colors to match your targets.

Stage Buckets / Tubs

Use labeled bins or buckets to organize each stage’s materials. Include:
