Scoring Devices and Match Technology

Running a smooth match requires more than just good props and planning—it requires reliable, organized equipment. Below is a breakdown of the essential tech gear needed for scoring and administration. This list includes practical recommendations for small to mid-sized clubs, especially those running 3–6 stage matches.

Scoring Devices

Tablets or Smartphones for Scoring

Quantity: One per stage, plus 1–2 spares recommended

Protective Cases and Screen Protection

Use ruggedized, water-resistant cases such as Otterbox or Supcase.
Screen protectors help prevent glare and damage.
A stylus can be useful in wet weather or when wearing gloves.

Shot Timers

Bluetooth-Enabled Timers

Quantity: One per stage minimum

Batteries and Chargers for Timers

Depending on your timer model, bring spare 9V batteries or USB charging bricks. Always have extras on hand.

Networking Equipment

Wi-Fi Router or Hotspot

Local Wi-Fi is required to sync scoring devices—no internet needed.

More information will be published soon

Master Device

Designate a tablet or laptop as the match master device.
This device will handle:

  • Shooter registration
  • Match data creation and synchronization
  • Score uploads

It should be fully charged, in good condition, and ideally have a keyboard if it’s a tablet.

Power and Charging

Battery Packs (Power Banks)

Quantity: 2–3 high-capacity packs (10,000–20,000 mAh)
Useful for charging scoring tablets and timers during extended matches.

USB Chargers and Cables

Bring a variety of cables (USB-A to micro USB, USB-C, Lightning) based on the devices you’re using.

Match Office Equipment

Use for:

  • Match setup
  • Accessing USPSA classifier data and PractiScore.com

Windows or macOS. Internet access is helpful but not required onsite.

  • Score confirmation sheets
  • Squad labels

Communication Equipment (Optional)

Two-Way Radios

Useful for match staff or ROs, especially on large ranges.

Documentation and Media (Optional)

Digital Camera or Smartphone

For documenting stages, capturing incidents, or promoting your club on social media.
